BACKDOOR BELL
Egg Tempura
23 x 31 inches
Renee McNeely Memorial Award, Allied Artists of America

The artist has long been attracted to elongated cast shadows. Very often the shape of the shadow can be more interesting than the object itself. In this painting, the shadow of the bell reminded the artist of pictures he had seen of some of the earliest UFO's. The clapper pull was one of his grandmother's antique crocheted shade pulls and pulling it announced many dinners.
