THE NAVIGATOR
2009
Egg Tempera
32 x 42 inches

Some of the artist’s fondest memories are of the camping trips he took as a child with his family to New England. While traveling along the coast they would visit many of the early sailing ports, the whaling museums and enjoyed anything connected with the sea. Mystic Seaport with it’s tall ships anchored in the harbor left an indelible impression. Stories of his father’s years in the Navy and a photo of him on his ship holding a freshly caught barracuda fueled the desire to revisit these harbors along the coast. These feelings were bottled up in this view of a model clipper ship docked on top of an old seaman’s trunk that could have easily belonged to “The Navigator”.
