DIGGIN' MY TOYS
Egg Tempera

Remembering one's childhood can bring back a flood of fond memories especially when the memories are of the toys you played with while growing up. Approached by a friend and collector to create a composition representing his childhood toy collection, what boy born in the fifties wouldn't want to be building with an erector set and building blocks and pushing a Texaco tanker around the floor. A corkboard with a pennant from the baseball team of the city where he was born also has the baseball cards of his three favorite players, Mickey Mantle, Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. A Roy Rogers holster set, a BB gun and a bangsite cannon developed into an interest in firearms. Trucks, trains and planes seemed to forecast his love of travel and the steam shovel seems to verify that he was indeed, "Diggin' My Toys".
